How it is used
In Rio Grande do Sul a 'prenda' is a young woman — the female counterpart of the 'peão' in gaúcho traditionalist culture (CTG dances, rodeio queens). Anywhere else in Portuguese 'prenda' means a gift or a forfeit in a game, so the word is easily misread.
Examples
Aquela prenda dança muito bem.
That young lady dances really well.
Os peões convidaram as prendas pra dança.
The gauchos invited the gauchas to the dance.
Minha neta virou uma prenda gaúcha.
My granddaughter became a gaucha young lady.
