Trocar o disco

Portuguese

Meaning

To change the subject

Example

Já estou cansada deste tema, vamos trocar o disco, por favor!

I'm tired of this topic, let's change the subject, please!

Origin

Trocar o disco ("to change the record") comes from the age of vinyl: once a record had played through, or you were simply tired of the same song, you swapped it for another. Asking someone to trocar o disco is asking them to drop a worn-out subject and talk about something else.
