Levou o farelo

Portuguese

Meaning

Kicked the bucket / bit the dust

Example

O cachorro do vizinho, coitado, levou o farelo ontem.

The neighbour's dog, poor thing, kicked the bucket yesterday.

Origin

Paraense slang for dying. Farelo is bran — the leftover crumbs of milled grain — and levar o farelo is to be carried off with the chaff.
